Kensington, famous for its lock kits used on laptops, was honored an innovation award during the 2016 CES for its SmartFit Wireless Charging Laptop Riser. The entrees for the innovation award was judged according to 27 different categories for design and innovative engineering. Kensington can now gloat about being a 2016 CES Innovation Award Honoree, but what made it win such an award?
Laptop risers are just like laptop stands but with adjustable height, usually used for matching the height of another monitor in use. There are lots of different variations to this accessory, but Kensington decided to add more functionality to the common accessory. Qi wireless charging is available on the base of the SmartFit Laptop Riser making it able to charge any Qi-enabled device. It’s positioned for the user to easily see their smartphone while still being able to use the laptop.
Kensington’s SmartFit Laptop Riser is made of ABS plastic, which comprises most of the laptop riser and also for the wireless charging, and aluminum and steel are used for durability of the accessory.
Overall, it’s a very handy device to have for a desktop replacement setup. The price of the SmartFit Wireless Charging Laptop Riser hasn’t been announced yet, but it should be available in the market around the summer of 2016.
