WiTricity will be partnering with the largest semiconductor chip manufacturer in Europe, ST Microelectronics, to develop integrated circuits with built-in wireless charging capabilities. With this, they should be able to cover the most common wireless charging standards to be able to cut the last cord.
ST Microelectronics already has a wireless charging transmitter and receiver for the Qi and PMA standards. With this partnership, they’re hoping to further advance the conveniences and ease of use of wireless charging.
Matteo Lo Presti, the ST’s Analog and MEMS Group general manager, regarding their partnership with WiTricity has said, “Combining the expertise of WiTricity… with ST’s resources and key IP, including Smart Power technologies and RF Bluetooth low energy, allows us to deliver complete, efficient wireless charging solutions that increase convenience and ease of use.”
